Metropolitan Community College
Metropolitan Community College (MCC) was created in 1974 when the Legislature consolidated the original eight technical community college areas into six. That year, the programs, personnel, assets and liabilities of the former Omaha Nebraska Technical Community College Area merged with the Eastern Nebraska Technical Community College Area under a new name stipulated by amended legislative statutes: the Metropolitan Technical Community College Area. In 1992, the Legislature voted to change the name to Metropolitan Community College Area.
State statute specifies four areas in which community colleges must engage students: Applied Technology and Occupational Education, Community Education, Transfer Education, and Applied Research. To this end, MCC is proud to offer a wide array of associate degrees, certificates, and credentials through academic and non-credit classes, and workforce training.
MCC’s planning vision is to continue to advance our mission through flexible, responsive, and exceptional educational services for students and the community today and for the next 50 years. As future plans unfold, six planning themes are in place to provide a framework for decision-making.
Grounded by MCC’s statutory purpose and mission, a comprehensive planning structure was developed to set in motion a clear strategy for the future. Onward: Future MCC represents a series of integrated, actionable plans that provide a multi-year roadmap for facilities and operational strategies. Each plan is a living document with annual review to continuously guide our collegewide planning into the next fifty years.
